Hive – Physical Bookmarking #Arduino #NeoPixel

Cai Davies shared his Hive – Physical Bookmarking project with us, along with a note: “My project Hive, uses an array of products produced by
Adafruit, including – Neopixel Rings, Capacitive touch sensors and the Adafruit thermal printer.”

Hive is my final project at University, the culmination of 3 years work. It is an experimental project based around physical computing – providing an alternative to current methods of using and distributing data.

What is Hive?

Hive is a project that aims to provide a new way to store information, through physical bookmarking. It gives the user the ability to physically grab information from their computer, using a Leap Motion, hand tracking device and storing that information into a Hive node, through touching the top of the Hive.

Upon storing information on a Hive, it will start to ‘breathe’. Lights inside the Hive indicate the amount of information that is held upon it. The more information stored upon the Hive, the faster it ‘breathes’.

When wanting to extract the information from the Hive, the user can simply ‘pull’ on the chord, to print out the details from a thermal printer, which provides a Title, description, tiny url, date and time….
