Open source hardware – PIC based “Monome-like” project … the PICnome128 – source, schematics, brd and firmare on the site. Released as CC Attribution-Share alike 2.1 Japan license. For sale here. The (discontinued?) monome 40h kit also has files for download – non-commercial use only.

  1. i think it should be stated that monome.org only allows a non commercial license, and in addition they don’t allow full kits to be sold. they have contacted this seller to ask them to stop selling kits and have been ignored.

    so while the open source component is nice, as a project its sort of despised on the monome forums.

  2. @maxamillion – can you post a link to the story about this, or forum post(s) from the monome folks, sounds interesting.

  3. These PICnome makers did a really good job. It’s PIC USB native, PICnome are making their own buttons. They designed their own board and made their own firmware. This is a completely new project. The MONOME people trying to deny someone else a living is very childish, especially since there are many companies that sell other Monome-like devices mass manufactured. PICnomes are oneoffs made by one person. PICnome is open source hardware. Thank you!

  6. @maxamillion – looks like the maker did everything correctly, posted files and released it with less restrictive license than the monome?
