Educational Mini UAVs
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, or UAVs can be quite difficult. Not only are you trying to figure out how to make something autonomous , you're trying to keep it in the air at the same time! We've seen these UAVs take many forms, from giant gliders with cameras mounted to them to tiny quadcopters with built in computers. What is important here is that it flies, and it is unmanned. We award this badge when we see some kind of flying contraption, that is keeping itself in the air and navigating on its own. It could be a laptop strapped to a weather balloon with a couple oscillating fans strapped to it for steering. As long as it is in the air, we're impressed.
A Special Note from Ladyada & the Adafruit Team

Ethan stopped by Adafruit's weekly Google+ Show-and-Tell to share the quadcopter he's working on with his dad. He designed a board for his PIC32 chip to talk to sensors and motor controllers for his mini UAV. Next on his list is adding a bluetooth communications module so he can control the quad copter from a computer or phone. We're very impressed with your circuit design skills, Ethan, congrats on earning the educational mini UAV badge!
