Almost everyone pretty much picks the same part for a purpose. With lots of practice, you can easily figure out what the 'most common' part is but it's always good to get some help along the way!

- Sockets - IC sockets (not female header)
- Other connectors - usb/communication, card holders
- Power connectors - battery holders, jacks & plugs

Passives
- Capacitors - All sorts of capacitors, from 10pF to 1000uF!
- Resistors - Just your everyday basic resistors, thermistors, PTC fuses
- Potentiometers - Trimmers and big'uns
- Inductors - coils, ferrite beads, chokes, etc.
Semiconductors
- Integrated circuits - of all sorts
- Voltage Converters and Regulators - To get from one Voltage A to Voltage B
- Transistors - BJT, MOSFET, JFET…
- Diodes - Power, Schottkey, zener, etc.
- LEDs - Everyone needs LEDs, either for indicators or illumination.
Other Electronics
- Crystals & clocks - hmm this should probably go under a different, larger group but what?
