Director of Hardware Development
at Louis Thiery in Boston, MA
Mission Apitronics’ mission is to capture the world’s environmental data to make it accessible and useful so that we may live in harmony with natural systems. With this in mind, our goal is to empower innovative farmers to transform our food system. The first way of doing this is by creating the internet of things for farms to help with efficiency, operations monitoring, record keeping, and management. Road Map We currently specialize in cost-effective in situ monitoring systems. Our hardware is extremely modular and designed for rapid-prototyping and customization. Last year, we kickstarted an open source environmental monitoring system. We are leveraging the current hardware to iteratively design the internet of things for agriculture with farms. We need to find out, for example, why less than 10% of farms use sensors to make irrigation decisions. When 70% of fresh water is being used for agriculture it seems unreasonable that the decision-making around it is not quantitatively based. What product needs to exist to make it so that 90% do so instead? Qualifications: Director of Hardware Development We are looking for a team member who first and foremost wants to change the face of agriculture with us; we fundamentally believe that technology can help us learn and create agricultural systems that are harmonious with nature. We are a start-up with limited resources and a statistically high probability of failure, so we need someone who can share our vision and passion, who can move fast and be flexible. More tangible attributes desired are: - an undergraduate and/or graduate degree in a technical field or science - able to work for $50k plus equity compensation (health insurance available) - experience designing embedded hardware - experience writing embedded firmware - the ability to work on-site at our offices in Somerville, MA - at least basic knowledge of the Linux environment - at least some experience using RF and implementing RF in products Opportunity We are very early stage - you would be employee #3 - so you will be getting in at the ground level. This means that you will a real equity stake in the company and you will have the ability to make a huge impact on our success and failures. Finally, by joining us, you will also be joining the Greentown Labs community, a coworking space for clean tech innovation where you will meet many smart, passionate, and creative entrepreneurs.
