Seeking Spring 2014 Interaction Lab Intern
at Design that Matters in Salem, MA
POSITION SUMMARY: We’re looking for an intern with a background in electronics hacking to help us build interactive prototypes for global impact at Design that Matters' Salem, MA studio this Spring, 2014. DtM's mission is to design new products in global health and education that improve lives for the poor in developing countries. We're developing a group of new products, and our process begins by testing physical and interactive prototypes both locally with experts in the Boston area, and internationally with target users in places like Southeast Asia and East Africa. As an established, award-winning design firm, we benefit from an extensive volunteer community of domain experts, a state-of-the-art prototyping studio and the freedom to explore new methods and ideas. We want to marry our strength in concept development and desktop manufacturing with digital hardware and software technology. We're looking for an intern with a background in electronics who can help us add interactivity to prototypes through works-like Arduino breadboards through to functioning alpha prototypes. Details: - Working towards or graduated with a degree in electrical engineering, interaction design, design technology or a related field - Experience (class projects welcome) with connected device concepts, designing integrated hardware-software solutions, electronics prototyping, and mobile app design - An incurable curiosity relating to all things design and technology - Love of teamwork and brainstorming sessions - Solid design tools and software skills including basic circuit design, microcontrollers (Arduino, Processing, Raspberry Pi), Linux, 3D CAD and Eagle a plus. - As a member of a 4-person team, your responsibilities will include a mix of duties from building early-stage interactive medical device prototypes to scanning in our monthly accounting documents.
