Ice Tube clock tube blown?

Postby DrXenon » Tue Jan 22, 2013 3:04 pm

This clock functioned correctly for more than a year, but now the tube doesn't display anything. Does the dark spot indicate that it is blown? I was thinking of buying a new tube, daughterboard and 90 degree header, but first is there any way to verify that it is not something on the mainboard?

The dark spot is normal. It is part of the manufacturing process and exists on the tubes when they are new.

Do the voltage checks again. Make sure that your boost converter is still working.

The act of replying to my post seems to have fixed the problem. Maybe it just wanted some attention. I left it unplugged for 5 minutes and when I plugged it back in, I heard a beep and the display lit up, although with the wrong time. I'm not sure if it will do anything, but I will replace the battery tomorrow.

Thanks!

What is the part number of your Q3 transistor? It looks like you have the old version with bipolar transistor which I believe has a design issue causing unreliable operation.
