Arduino / LED project idea but confused on what I should purchase

Postby babramovitch » Sat Feb 09, 2013 8:49 pm

Hi,

Hopefully this is the right forum for the question. I've had a project idea for quite awhile, but I always get frustrated at not being sure what I need to buy and the power is confusing.

I essentially just want to copy the belt kit (https://www.adafruit.com/products/332) but have it be 2 meters, with bluetooth so I can control it from my android phone. I need it to stay super compact as space is very limited. Having the batteries be 4 wide would be too much but I can always make my own battery holder that's less wide, but that should give an idea.

I think this board would control everything well but not sure if it`s the best choice for what I want to do? (https://www.adafruit.com/products/885)

So if 2m of LED (https://www.adafruit.com/products/306) and that board works, it's the power I'm really unsure of, it sounds like it gets more complicated after 1m?

If I can figure out what I should be buying I should be able to get the ball rolling.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!! =)

The IOIO should have the hardware capability to drive the led strip. Not sure if there are any existing libraries to do that. You may need to write some low-level code. Power for 2 meters should not be a major problem. You will get less runtime than for 1 meter with the same batteries. But other than that, the strip will run on the same ~5v source as the IOIO.
