USB / DC / Solar Lithium Ion/Polymer charger

Hi -- new to the Adafruit forums, hope this question has not been posted elsewhere.

I have a Goal0 Nomad 7 solar panel + Guide 10 powerpack that works good for 4xAA NiMH batteries. But, I would like to use the Nomad 7 panel with the USB / DC / Solar Lithium Ion/Polymer charger for Arduino experimentation and higher power applications. The Nomad 7 offers two outputs USB 5 VDC (5 W max) and 12 VDC (nom) (4 W max).

Could I use a simple voltage divider to reduce the Nomad's 12 VDC to 6 VDC? Or would a 6 V regulator work "better"? Or is there a simpler/better method?

PS I understand that Adafruit does not recommend using other solar panels with the USB/LiPoly charger. But I already have the Goal0 panel.

A voltage divider will not work. But you could feed the 5v into the USB port.
