Bad 2.1mm DC Plug Adapter

I ordered a male and female adapter so I could hook up an EL wire inverter and a battery pack.
I first wired the inverter and batteries by directly twisting the wires together and every thing works fine.
I then attached the male and female adapters and it did not work.
I tested the adapters with a multi-meter continuity setting. There is no continuity between the positive
terminal and the positive (inside) portion of the male plug. The negative side is fine, and the female adapter checks otu
fine and positive and negative.
