Adafruit’s comic book reading list #adafruitcomics – Bee and Puppycat by @natazilla

Comics-1-1
This week’s Adafruit’s comic reading list – Bee and Puppycat as selected by Alicia in Fab & Manufacturing!

Bee and Puppycat, based off of the popular Youtube Series, is the story of the perpetually unemployed Bee and her magical pet, Puppycat and their adventures temping at a myriad of interdimensional locations. The comic and youtube series were created by Natasha Allegri, who worked on Adventure Time and created everyone’s favorite gender-swapped Adventure Time characters, Fionna and Cake.

Much like the Youtube series, Bee and Puppycat is very episodic and mixes small slice of life stories with visiting really interesting other worlds, like Fish Bowl space and sometimes fighting bad guys. It also plays with the Magical Girl genre, much like the Powerpuff girls but with it’s own unique take. The 22 year old Bee is a really relateable character and her and Puppycat play off each other really well.

Because of the episodic nature, there are some issues that feature multiple artists each doing their own mini issues and it’s a lot of fun seeing how other artists envision the characters and world.

But I am actually going to recommend a specific issue, which is Bee and Puppycat Issue 2, which requires very little background and involves Bee and Puppycat visiting Snowglobe Planet to fix a broken music box. This issue was a real joy to read and has what is hands down the coolest use of QR codes I have ever seen in a comic. It also features a really cute mini story about side character Cass, awesome computer programmer and sister/roommate of Bee’s romantic interest, Deckard.
