From the mail bag!

Anyway, I’m one of the mentors for an FRC robotics team (go team 2502, Eden
Prairie Talon Robotics! :). I’m mostly a software geek, but (usually) know
which end of a soldering iron to pick up. I’ve been luring kids into
learning more about the electronics and programming side by “quietly”
playing from a Flora plus neo-pixel units, strips, and panels. It seems to
be working, since there is a good sized group that is REALLY jazzed about
getting their hands on an Arduino (expect an order soon ;).

And final the Kudo: one of our goals is to get more young-women onto the
team and into the guts of the robot. Adafruit is one of my chief allies in
this. “Oh, this stuff comes from adafruit… this cool startup by this woman
in NY” Pop over to the website and of course there is LadyAda. You can
almost -see- some of the culture bias melting away as the young ladies
basically think “wait, I can have it all? I can be smart without giving up
style? I can be stylish without giving up being smart?”. This, of course,
applies to the guys to.

Anyway, thanks for being an awesome role model!

Be well,

Stuart

Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.
