3DxGames – Collection of Gaming Consoles! #3DxGames #3DThursday #3DPrinting

Today on our weekly live 3D Hangouts we are celebrating the many ways that 3D printing intersects with the worlds of games, gaming, gamers, and gamer fandom. (And we tackled a challenging Halo cosplay project!) Here’s a quick roundup of a few other 3DxGames projects that caught our interest to whet your appetite!

NinTastic Nintendo Style Case for the Raspberry Pi by tastic007 Thingiverse

Here’s a very popular 3DxGames intersection – designing your own printed gaming console! Whether replacing the case for an off-the-shelf console or rolling your own around a Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone Black, or other embedded system, you can take advantage of your printer to house your gaming system in any object you like!

Here are a few that have caught our eye over the past few years.

Francis Brown’s NinTastic – Nintendo Style Case for the Raspberry Pi is a great three-part case and project designed around RetroPie — with extensive suggestions for the electronics and accessories for your RasPi gaming console as well as how to manage and optimize the games you install! MakerBot OUYA Console Robodock by MakerBot Thingiverse

MakerBot OUYA Console Robodock:

Two thumbs and robot hands up for the OUYA open gaming platform! For our partnership with OUYA, the MakerBot Design Team crafted a special seat for the hot new console with robot arms and oversized feet that move. Hoist the console on top to serve as the head, and the cables should sit neatly in the internal cavity. (read more)

RetroPie Case by smartroad Thingiverse

Kelvin Shirley’s RetroPie Case:

I have a laser cut case that I currently use my RetroPie in but I wanted something a bit more console like. This is the first version of the case.
Inspiration was taken from the original NES console, the OUYA and a little of Pac-Man’s Enemies. (read more)

Portaberry Pi Frankenstein Zombie remix plus flat face case unit mod by BigLazyB Thingiverse

Brian Cooper’sPortaberry Pi Frankenstein/Zombie remix plus flat face case unit mod:

This is a set of modifications to 3Derp’s awesome Portaberry Pi design. Big change – the case mod here allows for direct mounting of the joystick and the face buttons without the plates — looks a little more streamlined and allows for a logo to be placed on the front face.

I also posted a connections schematic and a very thorough step-by-step how to guide to accompany 3Derp’s image gallery. This is good for any Portaberry construction
Small changes – I mixed up the speaker plates as well as the Joystick and button plates with a splatter effect. Looks pretty nice I think. (read more)

Mini Ninteno Entertainment System NES by RabbitEngineering Thingiverse

Dave NunezMini Ninteno Entertainment System (NES). We’ve shared about his great classic computer and gaming platform miniatures before, but we couldn’t resist sharing one again! Above is the NES console, below is an Xbox One with Kinect.

It’s two inches wide! And you won’t have to blow on it to make it look cute!
Designed on OpenSCAD. (read more)

Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!

Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!

The Adafruit Learning System has dozens of great tools to get you well on your way to creating incredible works of engineering, interactive art, and design with your 3D printer! We also offer the LulzBot TAZ – Open source 3D Printer and the Printrbot Simple Metal 3D Printer in our store. If you’ve made a cool project that combines 3D printing and electronics, be sure to let us know, and we’ll feature it here!
