3D Loves Android, too! Lovable Google Android Miniatures #android #3DThursday #3DPrinting

Today on our weekly live 3D Hangouts, we will be sharing a guide and project for creating a Raspberry Pi Mac Classic emulator. 3D printing has had a long love affair with early Apple computers. (As it does also with all things Linux, Android, and Windows8, not to play favorites!) Here’s a quick roundup of a few other projects that caught our interest to whet your appetite!

There are scores and scores and scores of great Android figurines out there on sites such as Thingiverse and YouMagine. Choosing my favorites proved difficult.

Early CupCake CNC operator Winter’s figure (above) from 2010 stands out to me because he created it in high school at age 14, and the experience sharing it with the world gave him one of his first tastes feeling a part of a world community of makers, seeing his model printed out near and far. The magnet model below it by casinho below are an excellent example of how to layout the deceptively tricky Android character for easy printing on any desktop printer in the world. And at the very bottom, WindoAC’s Android figure holder — 3D printing as a means of displaying all of the many Android figures that enter your life along the way.

Lovable Google Android! by winterg:

I’ve noticed that there are alot of Google Android related stuff on Thingiverse (G1 docks and such) so I have 3D modeled the lovable Google Android so that all of you Google fans may print and display your commitment to the open source smartphone movement! (Or print it just for kicks… I’m actually a Iphone user *Sigh*.) Anywho, here it is!

PS: If you haven’t figured it out, the Google Android Guy is a logo created and shared by Google. My 3D model is a 3D reproduction of the logo and is shared with the world according to the terms described in the Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution License as defined by Google. creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ (read more)

Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!

Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!

The Adafruit Learning System has dozens of great tools to get you well on your way to creating incredible works of engineering, interactive art, and design with your 3D printer! We also offer the LulzBot TAZ – Open source 3D Printer and the Printrbot Simple Metal 3D Printer in our store. If you’ve made a cool project that combines 3D printing and electronics, be sure to let us know, and we’ll feature it here!
