NeoPixel Stick Pendant #WearableWednesday #3DPrinting

neopixel-stick-pendant-1

Thingiverse user mpinner shared a 3D Printed wearable project.

i created a pendant to use for displaying information about the sensors and microphone on my jacket. this eases the act of coding so i can see the results of real world behaviors.
having bare leds exposed on my chest was a bit too much even with the brightness turned down. i added this ornamental piece to protect the neopixel stick and diffuse the light.
as an added benefit the diffusion makes the neopixel stick read as perfectly symmetrical and perfectly wearable.
i 3d printed my enclosure, if this is not something you have access to you might trying melting some low temp plastic, hot glue, over anything else you can find to cover these leds.

NeoPixel Stick – 8 x WS2812 5050 RGB LED with Integrated Drivers

Make your own little LED strip arrangement with this stick of NeoPixel LEDs. We crammed 8 of the tiny 5050 (5mm x 5mm) smart RGB LEDs onto a PCB with mounting holes and a chainable design. Use only one microcontroller pin to control as many as you can chain together! Each LED is addressable as the driver chip is inside the LED. Each one has ~18mA constant current drive so the color will be very consistent even if the voltage varies, and no external choke resistors are required making the design slim. Power the whole thing with 5VDC (4-7V works) and you’re ready to rock.
