Announcing the GEMMA Hats Off Challenge with @element14!

Adafruit and element14 present the GEMMA Hats Off Challenge! Let’s upgrade hats with the Adafruit GEMMA, the tiny Arduino-compatible sewable microcontroller capable of lighting up a constellation of LEDs based on simple sensors and actions. Propose your GEMMA hat project and you could win the parts to build your project, which could win you the grand prize!

Ten RoadTest challenge competitors (that could be you!) will build electronics projects designed to be worn on the head using the Adafruit GEMMA sensor pack. Dress up like the ship in Close Encounters with flashing LEDs and simple tones, make a sparkling digital princess tiara for prom, stitch a VU meter baseball cap, or don a scrolling display matrix for your next DJ gig. We are looking for projects that stretch the tech as well as the craft of wearables.

We will be selecting the competitors after the enrolment period closes on August 4. Shortly thereafter, each competitor will be provided with a GEMMA Sensor Pack:

The competition will run from August 4th through October 31st. Competitors will be judged on their creativity, quality of documentation, and execution of craft. Throughout the build process, competitors will create blog posts in the element14 Wearable Technology group containing photos, videos, diagrams, code, and descriptive text to document their process. The winner will receive a grand prize of one Complete FLORA Collection parts pack from Adafruit.

To enter, read over the challenge details and then click the Enroll button on the challenge page to get started. Explain the project you’d like to make! Please be as detailed as possible about your project ideas; the most innovative and well-thought out proposals will be the ones we select.
