Lancia Trend Visions has the story on these beautifl 3D printed hats from milliner Gabriela Ligenza.

The first collection of hats made with 3D printing bears the signature of famous English milliner Gabriela Ligenza. A firm advocate of slow, artisanal fashion, the designer proves how traditional savoir faire and the most advanced technologies can coexist in harmony.

Actually, the primary goal of her F/W 2014 capsule collection is to propel handcrafted forms and classic design into the future, redefining the concept of luxury in the current context of standardization.

The hat of the future is not something that was bred from just the mind of Gabriela Ligenza, but rather developed through the collaboration with Francesco de Comite, an expert of mathematical art from the University of Science and Technology in Lille, Joaquin Baldwin, animator and storyteller specialized in digital creativity, and Adam Mellotte of Inner Leaf, who does 3D modeling, particularly for fashion and TV.

Among the various models by Ligenza, the one that stands out is the refined wedding headpiece that pushes the boundaries of what an accessory is commonly intended to be. Indeed thanks to 3D printing this hat incorporates the poem “Day Dream” by A.S.J. Tessimond, an aesthetic and philosophical synthesis of Ligenza’s vision, so beautiful we decided to include it below.

“One day people will touch and talk perhaps easily,

And loving be natural as breathing and warm sunlight,

And people will untie themselves, as string is unknotted,

Unfold and yawn and stretch and spread their fingers,

Unfurl, uncurl like seaweed and return to the sea,

And work will be simple and swift as a seagull flying,

And play will be casual and quiet as a seagull settling,

And the clock will stop, and no one will wonder or care or notice,

And people will smile without reason,

Even in winter, even in the rain”.

Day Dream by Arthur Seymour John Tessimond (1902 – 1962)
