Check out the first teaser trailer for the 3D printing documentary feature Print the Legend from the producers of King of Kong, Freakonomics, and Oscar-winner Undefeated, launching at SXSW in a couple of weeks. A tough, nuanced hardware startup doc, it focuses on the story of 3D printer vendors Formlabs, Makerbot/Stratasys, and 3D Systems (as well as Cody Wilson and other figures), as they seek to bring what was once only a tool for industry into the imaginations — and homes — of general consumers.
From the SXSW catalog description:
3D printing is changing the world – from printing guns and human organs to dismantling the world’s industrial infrastructure by enabling home manufacturing. It’s “the next Industrial Revolution.”
For the first time in history, the stories of the human beings building an industry have been filmed. The result: “Print the Legend”, which follows the people racing to bring 3D printing to your desktop and into your life. For the winners, there are fortunes – and history – to be made.
“Print the Legend” is both the definitive 3D Printing Documentary – capturing a tech in the midst of its “Macintosh Moment” – and a compelling tale about what it takes to live the American Dream in any field.
Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!
Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!
The Adafruit Learning System has dozens of great tools to get you well on your way to creating incredible works of engineering, interactive art, and design with your 3D printer! If you’ve made a cool project that combines 3D printing and electronics, be sure to let us know, and we’ll feature it here!Related
