Building a mech costume isn’t a simple task, but that hasn’t stopped Prizmatec Cosplay from working on an Eva-01 unit from Evangelion. The above photo showcases the work-in-progress, and even though the costume isn’t complete, it’s already impressive. He’s broken down several of the steps of building the costume on his Facebook page; he goes over everything from applying washes of paint to the armor to creating Eva-01′s glowing eyes. Though there aren’t a lot of descriptions, the pictures paint clear photos.
For the eyes, Prizmatec used black matte cardboard silhouettes and mini yellow LEDs. He mounted them inside the helmet and covered the eye sockets with lenses made from a CD case and mesh fly screen. Check out some of the in-progress photos:
