Here’s a handy tool to help introduce new makers to the basic shapes at the heart of both 2D and 3D modeling from Adam Kemp: Thingiverse Thing 108725.

This board is designed to assist students in exploring plane shape concepts and is part of the Makerspace Education chapter in my new book “The Makerspace Workbench” from Maker Media!. Simply cut out the board using a laser engraver, attach a length of yarn and add short 1/8″ wooden pegs.

The peg positions can make a:

  • Triangle
  • Square
  • Rectangle
  • Pentagon
  • Hexagon
  • Octagon
  • Decagon
  • and many more!
