At 25 years old, Heather Payne is already making a big difference in her community and around the world. Heather is the founder of HackerYou and Ladies Learning Code, a non-profit group working to give women the confidence and skills to learn about coding and technology. The company started with a tweet Heather sent out asking if there were any women in Toronto who wanted to learn to code. The response she receive was very positive and from there she started planning events around Canada.

From the huffingtonpost:

The goal of Ladies Learning Code is to create an environment where women can come and learn beginner-friendly computer programming and other technical skills in a social and collaborative way. The most important features of our workshops are their hands-on project-based nature, and the small ratio of students to instructors (usually four to one). It’s also important to note that, although we’re called Ladies Learning Code, men are welcome to attend our workshops (and they do). What we’ve created, I think, is the best environment for any beginner to learn to code, and I’m really excited about that.

If you are interested in signing up for a workshop or event make sure to sign up for their mailing list and follow their blog. They also have an awesome jobs board and have recently introduced two new ventures: kids learning code and girls learning code!
