Sun Wheel Six

Sun Wheel Six from Andrew Russell on Vimeo.

A neat project by Andrew Russell.

Sun Wheel Six is a video installation which creates a continuous, scanning record of the room in which it’s installed. The record is then displayed on a monitor or projected in the same room. I made it at SUNY Purchase in December 2012. The software end of the project is written in Processing, which communicates to the stepper motor via an Arduino board. The gears were made in SketchUp with Cadalog Inc’s Involute Gear plugin, and fabricated with our school’s Maker Bot Replicator. The documentary video was shot and edited by me, with music by Eric Holsten. The track is called Morning Clip, from Music for Morning by Shocking Twist.
