Our new break area table from CounterEvolution arrived!

CounterEvolution began in 2007 when Jim Malone, a life-long musician and songwriter who was at the time producing cartoons for children’s television, needed to make a change.  (He was also the original director of the English-language version of Pokemon.)  Having recently designed and built a log home in Catskill, New York, he came across a seven-foot slab of reclaimed bowling lane and built a counter for his New York apartment.

He was immediately inspired by the beauty and character of the old Heart Pine and began experimenting with furniture designs.  Soon, he had several prototypes for what would become staples of the Industrial Green and Modern Rustic lines.

In its brief history, CounterEvolution has reimagined the possibilities of reclaimed bowling lanes and other materials. The company’s products can be seen in such sustainability-minded establishments as Starbucks, Danny Meyer’s Shake Shack, Sweetgreen, and many more, as well as Green-friendly homes with an eye for design throughout the country.
CounterEvolution’s pieces are still made of old wood and steel rescued from closed bowling lanes and other buildings and structures before they’re torn down, but that’s only part of the story.

From the beginning, Malone’s vision for CounterEvolution has been not just the novel repurposing of the rare Heart Pine found in defunct bowling centers, but to take that Green-friendly practice to its highest level; to design and build quality furniture, commercial installations, and a variety of items for the home that exude an elevated sense of artistry, craftmanship, and functionality; the fact that they’re good for the environment shouldn’t be everything, just a naturally occuring bonus.
