Levitating Table by Rock Paper Robot

Levitating Table by Rock Paper Robot.

The Float table is a matrix of “magnetized” wooden cubes that levitate with respect to one another. The repelling cubes are held in equilibrium by a system of tensile steel cables. It’s classical physics applied to modern design. Each handcrafted table is precisely tuned to seem rigid and stable, yet a touch reveals the secret to Float’s dynamic character.

Jessica Banks and Mihae Mukaida, the two brilliant minds behind engineering boutique RPR, combine the concepts of classical physics with modern design innovation. Banks, who has advanced degrees in robotics and engineering from MIT, and branding whiz Mukaida met while doing agency work at the TED conference in 2011. Specializing in kinetic furniture, lighting and more, RPR’s unique pieces push the boundaries of traditional interior design.
