The Resistor Cutting Robot (RECO) by Oomlout

Check out this neat open source resistor cutting robot that the folks at Oomlout built to make kitting resistors much easier.

We go through a lot of ribbons of resistors at oomlout. While we have gotten quite speedy slicing them with scissors we knew there had to be a better way. As a result, we decided to design a machine to help us out.

The current prototype takes an Arduino, a stepper motor, two RC servos, two exacto blades and a bundle of laser sliced 3mm MDF. It produces resistors strips of any length.

Also, be sure to check out the Solarbotics version, Mister Bitey (video below)!  I have no need for something like this, but I am certainly tempted to make one just for fun.  :)

  1. I liked Solarbotics version more than Oom’s. Though both are awesome and get job done.
