Leonardo’s Basement Creativity Convention 2012 #youngengineers

While the teachers are away, the kids will play!

Leonardo’s Basement is an innovative educational organization for children and their families, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They create imaginative learning environments where girls and boys ages 6 to 16 design and build their creative ideas, mixing art, science and technology.

[October 18th] was the first day of Leonardo’s Basement’s annual Creativity Convention for students, held during the days their teachers attend an October convention.

Such a brilliant idea.  For those who don’t know, in Minnesota, every October the teachers go to a convention over a long weekend (MEA weekend).  Leonardo’s Basement takes in students during the days that those kids would normally be in school.  If you live in Minnesota, and have a child between the ages of 6-16, be sure to check out Leonardo’s Basement.  Here is a small chunk of their mission statement:

Leonardo’s Basement is an innovative educational organization for children and their families. We create imaginative learning environments where girls and boys ages 6 to 16 design and build their creative ideas, mixing art, science and technology. We provide exciting building experiences for over 600 children a year and introduce our programs to thousands more at neighborhood and community events.
