Famous Robots by Daniel Nyari

From top left across and down: T-800, Astro Boy, Vision, Bender, Brainiac, C3PO, Clank, Cyberman, Cylon, Awesome-O, Gort, Rosie, Alpha, Voltron, EVE, Maschinenmensch, Optimus Prime, Wall-E, Wheatley, Marvin the Paranoid Android, Miles Monroe, HAL 9000, Iron Giant, Robby the Robot, Pneuman, R2D2, Sentinel, Asimo, H8, Mega Man

Popular Culture has given us a wide array of memorable characters that, over time have become distinctly iconic. This project highlights specifically those non human, non animal characters from TV, Video Games, Cinema, and Comics that give us every reason to feel nostalgic. Inspired by Robert Ball’s Goodies & Baddies Prints, I wanted to highlight robots whom I believed to be transcendental across the pop culture landscape including classic robots, modern robots and even some non-robots robots.

  1. Where’s Robot, from Lost In Space?

  2. Well theyleft our LOT’S of robots from the list. There is (See this one http://laughingsquid.com/wheres-wall-e/). BTW the astroboy image is from the latest CGI movie and isn’t the ‘official’ Tesuka anime/manga one.

  3. Funny I just watched the movie Sleeper the other night. I had not seen it in years. Not to be picky but he wasn’t a robot (Miles), he was just dressed like one to hide from the police. Not sure why he is in the list but oh well.

I agree Robot from Lost in Space should be here.

I never considered HAL a robot.

  4. I’d also rather like to the the Original Marvin as well. Didn’t like the ping-pong ball one much.

  5. Where is Johnny 5 from Short Circuit?

  6. Cybermen aren’t robots, they’re cyborgs!

  7. Isn’t #24 “Robbie the Robot” the one from Lost in Space?

  8. Oop. After a quick search, I see it’s not. A few similarities though…

Scroll about a fourth of the way down to see them side-by side…
