Make a Raspberry Pi Laptop with an Atrix 4G Dock (video)

A while back we found this post in the Raspberry Pi forums and wanted to make a tutorial for this easy way to make a Raspberry Pi laptop using the Atrix 4G dock– just by splicing one USB cable. Watch the video on YouTube (don’t forget to subscribe!) and Vimeo.

  1. Uh oh, folks better buy the lapdock quick now that it’s on the Adafruit blog :) I must say it is crisp and beautiful and well worth my $50. My 3.5″ composite LCD is cute but doesn’t do the Pi’s GPU justice.

  2. I built one a month+ ago, it works so well and the price and “making factor” fit well in the Pi ethos. I recommend this to anyone, just remember at least one of the adapters is eBay from China only.

  3. I ordered a bunch of adapters from the original hackaday link, but I like yours better. where can I get them?
    And… I have to confess that I haven’t found the lapdock for anywhere near $50. I bought mine on amazon for around $70.

  4. The micro HDMI f-f coupler was eBay from China. The other adapters/cables are either from monoprice or what we stock here at Adafruit.

  5. Hi!!
    Would you might to post which are the cables? I’m having some trouble understanding that part ^^;;
    Thx!!

  6. Great video, and the lapdock display is indeed beautiful!

    A tip for those with “fresher” Raspberry Pi’s: if you don’t have the F1/F2 polyfuses, then no USB cable modifications are needed. You can just plug and play. Details of my setup here: http://www.element14.com/community/groups/raspberry-pi/blog/2012/09/08/raspberry-pi-laptop

    cheers,
