Raspberry Pi Foundation US Hackspace Tour | Raspberry Pi. Liz writes –

Rob Bishop is one of the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s developers and a super-enthusiastic tech-evangelist type. He’s volunteered to go visit a number of hackspaces in the US in a sort of Regency Grand Tour style (only with aeroplanes and a backpack full of computers) to spread the word about Raspberry Pi and to give some hands-on workshops to help kickstart your projects.

The events at each hackspace will consist of an informal talk, Q&A session, demo and hands-on workshop. He’s also going to run a show-and-tell session to allow you guys to come and share your projects with rest of the community and he’ll award prizes on behalf of the Foundation for the best project at each event; we’re also organising some small giveaways. And yes, we will be selling Raspberry Pi’s on site! Eben and I are hoping that we might be able to join him at one or two of the venues too; watch this space.

Raspberry Pi Workshop Sept 19th! @ NYC Resistor.

The Raspberry Pi foundation is stopping at NYC Resistor on their Hackerspace Roadshow. Come and join us for an evening with talks and hands-on time with the Raspberry Pi. Special guests from Adafruit will be joining us as well, with some of the awesome stuff they’ve designed for making your Pi even more tasty.

The Raspberry Pi is a tiny, insanely cheap mini computer. It combines a 700mhz ARM processor, a GPU, hardware h.264 decoding, and a bunch of GPIO pins for interacting with the real world, all for about $25. The Pi was designed with students in mind, but there’s tons of potential for interactivity, robotics, and art when you can literally afford to build the computer into your installations.

Each Friday is PiDay here at Adafruit, be sure to check out our posts, tutorials and new Raspberry Pi related products. Have you tried the new “Adafruit Raspberry Pi Educational Linux Distro” ? It’s our tweaked distribution for teaching electronics using the Raspberry Pi.

  1. I’m disappointed that there are 4 NYC events but none in Philadelphia. Was there a call for hacker spaces to express interest?

  2. Consider your wish granted! Hive76 contacted me as I can just about fit them into the tour as I’ll be going from NYC to DC anyway.
