Welding Projects for #backtoschool

Want to earn the skill badge for welding? Check out Adam Kemp’s requirements doc and the projects below!

On one of my favorite episodes of Make: Live, Hackett showed Matt Richardson how to arc weld. He’s my go-to resource for all things welding, and he teaches classes on different techniques regularly at The Madagascar Institute in Brooklyn NY.

David Lang cronicles his welding experience in this MAKE post.

There are many types of welding but you might run into arc, torch, MIG, and TIG most often! Here’s some of the first welding I did– practice joints with an oxyacetylene torch.

  1. Wow, that requirements sheet is really hard! I’ve done quite a bit of welding and kinda know all the stuff, but I wouldn’t be able to pass it — I’ve never done any TIG because I can’t afford the equipment, and gas is too dangerous for my rented workspace. I guess it’s good for schools with fully-equipped welding shops, though…

  2. Those practice welds look great! Bet you had fun… I’ve done TIG, MIG, torch and laser welding. TIG is like having a magic ray gun compared to MIG. As soon as my kids are old enough I’ll be teaching them to weld. :)

    Welding holds the world together!
