It’s crazy.
Setting that aside, I realized this week that my kids have barely picked up a pencil since school let out.
I began to draw up a page of practice problems for the kids, but quit halfway, opting instead to build some sheets of problems with Excel’s randbetween function and Word’s mail merge capabilities.
Here are the homework sheets I came up with. Each PDF is about 27 pages, about 80K.

Children need to be taught to read as fast as they are able and that is a problem if both parents work because there is less time when they come home from work because they have to cook dinner, start laundry and give baths. I sat at home watching Sesame Street with my son and saying the letters with him.
I made an effort to make sure my son could write the alphabet and spell his name before he went off to kindergarden. There were children who went half way through the school year and they were having trouble on writing so how do they participate in school if they can’t write or read?
My son thinks the kids in school could do better but they don’t try. I think that if parents sat down with their kids at a young age, they can learn something and the rest of the work wouldn’t be so hard for them but I think kids do best when parents read together and it is important to read to your kids.
