Knitting machine hack– new Python script makes it easier!

Brother

This weekend I tried out Davi’s img2track Python script, which combines and simplifies much of the command line work required to put new digital patterns on the Brother KH-930 knitting machine. Features:

  • Option to use a file dialog window to choose the input image
  • Accepts most common image formats (jpg, gif, png, bmp, …)
  • Images converted to black & white (1 bit deep)
  • Darker pixels knitted with “contrast” yarn
  • Images stretched vertically to compensate for stitches being wider than they are tall. Adjustable stretch factor, default is 1.5 (3/2).
  • Large images will be resized smaller, to fit in one track
  • Adjustable maximum width option (default is 200)
  • Black & white pattern saved to .b+w.png image file for inspection (in the folder that contains the input image)
  • Pattern data written to sector files for loading with emulator
  • Error messages
  • Log file records operations and errors for debugging

I’m working on feature requests and beta testing, and encourage you to do the same and post up in the Adafruit forums! Thanks Davi!
