EEBookshelf: AN10897 A guide to designing for ESD and EMC

AN10897: A guide to designing for ESD and EMC (courtesy NXP Semiconductors) was an unexpected surprise given the title, but it instantly shot to near the top of my list of all-star app-notes when I started reading through it.  Aside from some information and explanations on ESD (ergo the title), the second half of this app note also contains some exceptionally valuable tips on PCB layout and design, particularly where sensitive high-speed signals are involved.  The definitive book on the subject is still “High-Speed Digital Design” by Johnson and Graham — I spotted a number of tips in this app note from the book — but if you’re interested in some quick ways to improve your PCB design, this app note is an excellent a free way to get started!

  2. Brad:

Thanks for the heads up on the other app notes … always nice to get suggestions. There’s a lot of really good free information out there, it’s just sometimes more difficult than it should be to find it.

  3. Great find. High frequency PCB design is something I’ve been trying to get my head around and this has lots of practical suggestions anyone can follow.
