What gifts of electronics and education did you give this year? Did you give something that will spark the mind of a young kid that will become an artist, designer, engineer or scientist? Did you make something for someone, did you give a book? Post up in the comments!

Adafruit publishes a wide range of writing and video content, including interviews and reporting on the maker market and the wider technology world. Our standards page is intended as a guide to best practices that Adafruit uses, as well as an outline of the ethical standards Adafruit aspires to. Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.

  1. ssous vide kits: pid controller rice cooker and airstone/pump

  2. The “First Time Clock Puzzle Kit” for my six year old niece, who has already finished it and figured out how to make the alarm ring continuously, and a “Snap Circuits” kit for my eight year old nephew.

  3. Mmmmm patent drawings. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0486457435/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=theli091-20

  4. I did my best to share my projects and ideas online (and in person) and get others excited about electronics, art, making and DIY.

At the Milwaukee Makerspace we did a number of events where we taught people to solder, and at least a few members (including me!) made holiday items and gifts at the space.

  5. Lego Mindstorms kit for my 7 yr old daughter. In addition, she and I worked together on making a talking clock using Adafruit wave shield. The clock says date and time in her voice.

  6. Chemistry set and Snap-Circuits kit for my eight year-old daughter.

  7. I gave my wife a snowflake shield and a freeduino.

  8. I have been mentoring two very bright children of our friends- a 10 year old boy, and 13 year old girl, in electronics, engineering and technology in general. So far, I have been sharing some of my projects with them, and I hope to help them make a metal detector soon.
I also try to contribute as much as possible to the general project forums here.
I am having a great time doing this, and while the parents appreciate the time and attention I give to them, the pleasure is all mine!

  9. Many, many hours spent writing up assembly notes and helpful advice on my blog for people assembling DIY 3D printers. And answering questions on the reprap forums.

Cheap desktop 3D printing is magic. We cannot even guess at what the kids of tomorrow will be making when they’ve been brought up to create and share their own toys and tools straight from their imagination!

  10. I gave my neices a snap circuits kit. They have never done electronics but they picked it up really well! We were excited when we put in an amplifier and a speaker and accidentally started picking up a radio station when one of them touched the components. We looked up the AM Radio project and got it working in no time.

  11. I forgot to get my dad a card, so I made him a PCB instead.
