OggStreamer – Developing an OpenHardware Streaming Device. Georg writes in…
The OggStreamer Project started in Feb 2010 and it is intended to become a full OpenHardware/OpenSource ready-to-manufacture product. The main propose of this device is to connect remote radio-studios (or live-events) to a main radiostation over the Internet using an IceCast2-Server. So it is basically a hardware IceCast2 Upstream-Client. Additionally the OggStreamer can host an IceCast2-Mini-Server on its own – so that a limited number of listeners can directly connect to the Livestream with just with one click on the webinterface. The Project won the 2nd price in theLantronix XPortPro 2010 contest and I reinvested the pricemoney and many hundreds of hours to push the project further.
When starting this project I underestimated the effort from taking a project from prototype to product – but now as we are already on our way, I would like to complete that task. About 6 month ago a friend of mine took over the part of designing the PCB – and I am currently focusing on the MCAD design and the documentation. We are progressing, but there is still a lot of work on the Firmware-side. So I am searching for people willing to contribute to this project – if you are interested you can find my contacts on the ABOUT Page of the OggStreamer-Blog: http://oggstreamer.wordpress.com/
Contributions to this project can be manifold: Spreading the word; Developing SW; a monetary donation or last but not least you interest and attention to follow the development process on the blog.
