Intro Post – Meet Brad, High School Teacher, Educator…

Hello Everyone!

Who am I?
I am someone who has always loved aircraft, motorcycles, and music. Not just any aircraft, motorcycles or music, just the really good stuff. 😉

What do I love to teach?
I love teaching how to draw using hand-generated sketches and CAD because these tools allow us a way to develop and explore ideas, store information and share with others in a variety of ways.

What do I want people to know about me?

Two things:

  1. I believe learning occurs when one actually does something not just reading about it, hearing a lecture, or watching a video. The ultimate learning experience involves the birth and development of a personal idea, planning how to make it, making it, then fixing all the bugs so it actually works. There is a great level of satisfaction when this takes place and the joy from this experience which never seems to fade.
  2. There are many things in life which I enjoy: playing the guitar, riding my motorcycle, flying radio controlled airplanes and helicopters, photography, and of course making electronics projects.

That should do it for now – looking forward to meeting everyone and hopefully I’ll contribute in many positive ways.

Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.

  1. Welcome to the team, Brad!

  2. Welcome, Brad! Have you got a personal/school blog/website I could check out?

  3. Thanks!

I have a school web site but there’s not much there related to electronics (I teach Engineering Graphics). I began a project last weekend I want to publish but I’m a little confused – am I supposed to put my project here at the blog pages or over at the educator forum or somewhere else?

And, don’t get your hopes up with my latest project – it’s something very simple but I think it’s a lot of fun.

    Thanks again,

    Brad

  4. That’s something you’ve got to get worked out with the people at Adafruit (which I am in no way affiliated with, beyond being a member on their website), but my personal advice would be to start by publishing it on a personal blog/hosting your own videos, then linking to it on the educator forum, then linking to it here on the blog if it’s cool with them. But again, that in no way constitutes official advice, and I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. Looking forward to your project!
