Ford + Bug Labs

Ford + Bug Labs.

“BUGswarm makes it fast and easy to work with net-connected devices of all kinds. In addition, BUGswarm’s Web UI and API let developers access hardware functions as a collection of web services that can easily be manipulated and curated to create a new breed of applications and services that benefit businesses and the community,” said Peter Semmelhack, founder and CEO, Bug Labs. “Our work with Ford on OpenXC is a perfect example of this. Not only are we helping Ford innovate new features and applications for in-car use, but BUGswarm allows data to be collected remotely from a fleet of cars to potentially help an entire community learn how to drive more fuel efficiently, avoid traffic congestion, reduce pollution or any other imaginable benefit.”

OpenXC is Ford’s research and development platform based on Bug Labs’ open-source Bug System (unveiled today at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco). OpenXC enables the developer community to quickly prototype ideas and test out affordable, new connectivity concepts that could enhance Ford’s automotive fleet and create more custom options for drivers.
