Interesting video and all, and as a maker you can’t complain about the attention, but I don’t see what Intel is going to be able to do in this space. It isn’t like even the most dedicated makers are going to be able to use Core i7 breakout boards or something, and their last SoC press release just had it’s 3rd birthday this week:

In the maker world of Arduino indeed an Intel Core i7 or similar quad core CPU will be tremendous overkill. But note that in the world of commercial embedded systems there are thousands of folks deploying stuff like that.
For us makers, @Intel_Stewart has been working hard to create something makers could put to use. His latest incarnation is still high performance vs an Arduino microcontroller, but I’m certain some maker will figure out how/where to make an amazing application for this board:

@Bruce — In my opinion, whether or not makers could use Intel products in their projects is kind of beside the point.
Having Intel engineers and scientists as part of our maker community would be nothing but good news and would enlarge our collective braintrust.
I have several friends at Intel who are starting to get into making, and the idea really is catching on there.
