MAKE Magazine takes a look at Sony’s history of suing makers, hackers and innovators. Over the last decade Sony has been targeting legitimate innovation, hobbyists, and competition. From picking on people who want to program their robot dogs to dance to suing people who want to run their own software on something they bought. Sony has made so many mistakes with technology choices (Memory Stick, Magic Gate, UMD!), perhaps they’ll end themselves soon enough, but until then MAKE is keeping score on Sony’s all our war on tinkerers.

Sony makes great products that are crippled by their own doing. Then to make it worse, anybody who tries to fix it, gets sued. They are the giant dinosaur of technology. NOFX had a great lyric about dinosaurs, “The dinosaurs will slowly die and I do believe no one will cry. I’m just glad I’m gonna bet here to watch the fall.”

Complain all you want about their consumer equipment.
Fact of the matter is, if you want *the* best in video quality for professional (ie. broadcast & video production) use. You buy Sony equipment.
Ever look on E-bay ? notice how much even used Sony pro equipment is going for. There’s a reason for it !
