Sony sent a takedown notice to GitHub demanding the removal of 6 repositories under the ‘circumvention device’ clause of the DMCA. All of the repositories in question were related to jailbreaking or homebrew development for the PS3. We love that the DMCA is also in GitHub. This is a waste of time and money for Sony, the code on GitHub does not belong to Sony. Thanks Mike!

@Dimitris: In my opinion, it’s a waste of time because all of this data is already out in the world. It’s a waste of money because they’re paying lawyers hundreds of dollars an hour to file these DMCA motions and prepare C&D notices, but none of that is going to make that information magically disappear from the internet.

Offtopic: I want to bring it to your attention about the huge number of spam posts in the Open Hardware summit forums (openhardwaresummit.org/forum/). Another thing I noticed is phpBB not using the rel=”nofollow” attribute for hyperlinks in the posts. I guess this would allow the spam links to acquire some google juice.
