This video is an example of why I’m an engineer. Engineering is all about diving in and learning about how to get things done, which ends up being incredibly rewarding and fun! I’ve spent the past year renovating parts of the house I live in, so here’s a snippet about installing doors, wall and trim.

Interesting video idea! Anybody up for doing a “Installing Cat 5e cable in your home” video? Maybe once we get around to doing it in our house I’ll vlog it

Doors in old homes are tons of fun. I went to put in a new storm door and discovered our 1920′s front door was 33in. The standard sizes now are 32 and 34in. Unless we were willing to pay twice as much for a custom door we had to figure out how to make a 32in door fit. Oh yeah and the 20′s frame was not square either.

Door hanging pro tip:
When you hang a door (or re hang a door) start with the hinge side. Shim and nail it so that it is plumb. Then go around and finish shimming and nailing the other side adjusting for the reveal around the door.
