Hardware will cut you

Hardware will cut you, Toorcon presentation from Amanda “w0z”!

The hardware design process is fraught with pitfalls, from library component sketchiness, parts availability, erroneous data sheets, underestimates of complexity and long lead times. Designing good hardware on time, on budget and to specifications is like being in a knife fight. Hardware will cut you. I will present my methods for managing blood loss in the hardware design and production arena.

If there’s a video we’ll try and get it posted.

  1. It was pretty awesome except for the “you don’t need to be an MIT engineer” part. You don’t need to be an engineer period. You do need to be a masochist though…

  3. Obstinance trumps intelligence any day of the week in engineering!

You don’t have to be a genius to do any of this stuff, but you do need a bit of perseverance to stick at it long enough to learn from those initial, inevitable (invaluable!) mistakes.

Great presentation, though. Not enough of this side of things get presented.
