Has anyone tested it with the ipod Touch 4th gen?

yes, we have – it works perfectly. there are also photos of us testing in the apple store and the forums / flickr / elsewhere have reports of it working.

Could this be expanded so that you’d get a lot more power to charge an iPad?

@Kristian yes just hook up two batteries with a higher capacity (d-cells).
Just make sure the voltage does not exceed 5 volts
