Hardware trickery: Why Apple’s iPhone love Chargers – SPIEGEL ONLINE – Nachrichten – Netzwelt (Google translated) and here is the original in German

Why are not actually any USB power supply with all iPhone and iPod versions, even if they have the right plug? Eine amerikanische Hardware-Hackerin ist dem nervigen Netzteil-Wahnsinn nachgegangen, hat den Grund und auch gleich eine Lösung gefunden – die sie als Bausatz verkauft. An American hardware hacker is annoying power-madness which followed, has the same reason, and also found one solution – which they sold as a kit.

  2. Maybe adafruit will be running low on mintyboost kits pretty soon ;-)

I just can’t wait to see all the new ‘It doesn’t work’ posts on the forum, accompanied by millions of pictures of mutilated PCBs drowning in solder.

  3. Woot a few days ago had a lithium power pack, and one of the things it included was a USB-to-USB “iPad” adapter. I ordered one. What do you think the probability is that it has the exact resistor values for charging?

I also built a simple (two connectors minus wires) 5v only USB charging adapter (to prevent annoyances with hardware probes and such).
