Delightful – Laptopograms

Laptopograms are images made by pressing photosensitive paper onto a laptop screen and flashing an image in a manner not unlike contact printing or photograms.

  1. I did this almost a year ago with a regular LCD monitor and got very different results. I did a complete how to writeup here: http://www.crazybutable.com/weblog/archives/2009/07/25/who-needs-an-enlarger-when-you-have-a-monitor/

I think it’s very interesting that he got such different contrast results with the paper and developer he was using. Also, it’s hard to tell from the smaller images but it looks like he got much better detail than I was able to get.

Around that same time period I also made my own enlarger out of an old Pentax camera and an iPhone: http://www.crazybutable.com/weblog/archives/2010/04/27/who-needs-an-enlarger-when-you-have-an-old-camera-and-an-iphone/

  2. I wonder if he’s leaving a step out or something. I’ve used Ilfospeed and Neofin Blue before and I never got anything that looked like that. It almost appears that the fixer was bad, because it has that unfixed haziness to it.

  3. If you scroll down he does say he used “fixer of unknown provenance”.

  4. Yes, I read that. I guess I gave him too much crediting for assuming he would know if the fixer was actually working.

All in all, it seems like he was in too much of a rush.

Maybe when his photos fade to black, he’ll learn.
