  1. Excellent video, but your hold and solder technique scares the hell out of me. I got burned bad once, and never ever again. Get yourself a pair of helping hands from Rad Shack. Cost you about $15 and will save you from the worst burn of your life.

Secondly, what’s up with the dish for a soldering iron holder? Amazed it doesn’t shatter from the temperature differential. Favor #2, please buy a real soldering iron, nice, heat controlled. Again, Rad Shack is close and their best is about $75 and compares very well to a Digital Weller.

  2. The video was good, but the music caught my attention because the sample looping in the background is from the Twin Peaks soundtrack. Heh…

  3. I learned electronics pre-internet. I have burned myself. I consider burns to be reminders not to work too late. To each there own. Any kids out there should learn how to solder from http://www.ladyada.net/learn/soldering/thm.html.

The amazing plate is Cornell — very heat resistant. The iron is angled pointing upwards so it is not touching the plate surface. The radio shack iron is quite satisfactory — I use what I am used to.

But enough about me — I’m here to brag about my kid.

My son (14) made the awesome video — he mounted the camera over head and sat across the room taking shots from his laptop. Here is a lego stop motion he did a while back: http://www.flickr.com/photos/moosetech/3511347430/in/set-72157617841014904/

    Peace! y’all

  4. By the way, building the TV-B-Gone is fun, but not as fun as bringing it to bars where I play music. :)
