Why does solder paste need to be refrigerated?

cuz it says so on the box
it goes bad, it seems like perhaps it separates. old paste is sticky and hard to work with. It doesnt reflow as well and seems to ball up more.

It costs a lot too. Why waste it? I usually keep mine in the fridge next to the eggs. It actually tastes pretty good in an omelet. Doctors say it’s good when you need you neck to flop over.
