Nate from SparkFun talks about the past/current and future kits that are open source hardware at SparkFun. Great read and interesting stuff in the comments too.
Try Adafruit's new iPhone & iPad app for makers! Circuit Playground!"Incredibly handy for anyone working in electronics. Perfect for engineers and non-engineers alike."
Sparkfun has been part of the opensource/hardware scene for longer than even they know. It’s great that they have openly acknowledged this. They are an excellent addition to the community. Free the Knowledge! There is still enough money to go around and to beat to the point who would buy electronic kits from China. We have all read their ‘documentation’ after all.
