SoftPot (ribbon sensor) in stock!

Softpot Lrg
SoftPot (ribbon sensor) in stock! Manufactured by Spectra Symbol, these are nice little ribbon controllers (also known as ‘soft potentiometers’) with an adhesive backing. There is a nominal 10K resistance across the two outer leads. The middle pin resistance with respect to either of the outer pins changes depending on where on the strip one presses. When no pressure is applied, the middle pin floats, so be sure to use some sort of weak pullup, such as 100K ohm. Pick one up a the Adafruit store!

  1. Fabulous that you’re selling these.

I’m a big fan of audio electronics developer, MILQUETOASTE and recall him using a SoftPot in one of his projects, demonstrated on YouTube. Here’s the URL for anyone who’d like to check it out: youtube.com/watch?v=uuW_uDsalmE

  2. Hi,
Has anyone figured out a way to use an Arduino/Softpot combo to produce an analog C.V., say 0-5vdc, proportional to the fingertip position on the softpot? The tricky part is somehow “catching” and storing the value as the fingertip is removed from the softpot, such that the C.V. will remain at that level until the softpot is actuated again.

I haven’t found this yet, although I’d thing it would be useful for those looking to replace physical pots w/ softpots. Doing this w/ discrete Sample & Hold circuitry is tricky & doesn’t scale well for multiple softpots…

    Thanks for any help.

  3. use a week pullup, like the internal pullup of an avr. then if the value is > 1020 you know they released their finger
