Linux Stamp

I’m looking over the minimal LinuxStamp project and like what I see! Its basically a pared down linux board running on an ARM with USB, Ethernet and SD card slot. There are breakout pins for the chip on either side and the entire project is open source. See also: Make Controlle board, Chumby

  1. Atmel has a similar board, the ATNGW100. Sure, it’s not as much a development board as it is an embedded solution, but its still awesome. Oh, it also runs Linux.

  3. I did a comparison of some similarly featured low-cost Linux capable boards. (Stamp being LinuxStamp). I’m sure I missed something that matters to someone, but hopefully this is useful. I’m not claiming this is perfect info — check out datasheets and websites yourself, and feel free to correct me.

    Strengths: The LinuxStamp, Eddy, and NGW100 are ready to communicate with the developer with the ethernet on board.
    The Beagle has strong multimedia support, high clock, for not much more cost.

    Weaknesses:
    No video on the Stamp. No on-board ethernet on the Beagle (use USB). Eddy doesn’t seem to be readily available by US distributors.
    NGW selling for higher than original price (~$70, now $90); on chip support for audio/video, but no connections.
    Some ARM developers may not be familiar with AVR32 architecture; assembly.
